Derrik Jordan: Music

Nyo Ko Bok

(SuperString Theory - SuperString Theory Goes To Senegal)
Music by Derrik Jordan and Barou Sall
I wanted to record an improvised duet with Barou Sall using hoddu and violin so when were were together at Baaba Maal's studio in Dakar one day I got my chance. Barou starts out with a riff and I play along. I took this duet and brought it back to Vermont and added more instruments. "Nyo Ko Bok" commonly means "You're welcome" but literally means "We share it." Piano, percussion, drums, bass and more are added to fill out the sound but the heart of it is the duet with Barou's mesmerizing riff.
