Impulse Ensemble's first CD "Initiation" brings together the unique World Music fusion influences of its members Tony Vacca, Jim Matus and Derrik Jordan. A World Fusion power trio, all three musicians became enthralled with World Music in the 1970's and have continued to work within the styles of African, Middle Eastern and more since then. Tony is a percussionist focusing on the West African giant balafon as well as gongs, drums and other percussion. Jim Matus plays the Laoutar, an electric Greek lute with an amazing sound. Derrik Jordan plays 5 string electric violin, kalimba, percussion and sings. Their song "Catch That Wave" is an afro-fusion pop song with an empowering message.

Abiodun Oyewole - Love Has No Season


Abiodun Oyewole is a founding member of The Last Poets, considered by many to be the first rap group. The group started in 1968 in Harlem, NYC and Abiodun has built a reputation as a fiery Black revolutionary poet. This CD shows his softer side and includes his romantic songs. His distinctive voice is instantly recognizable and his poetry flows through the songs. Derrik Jordan co-wrote the songs and produced the CD, playing most of the instruments.


Pape Falaye Sakho - Kora From Sobo Bade


Pape Falaye Sakho is a kora player and singer from Senegal. He is carrying on the Malian tradition in his music and does some original songs as well such as Sakho Dougou (which means Sakho Village/history). Derrik Jordan produced the CD and is playing 5 string electric violin. Pape works at Sobo Bade in Toubab Diallaw, about an hour south of Dakar.
